Extending the Helping Hand
Brothers of Theta Chi Delta Zeta Chapter understand the importance their motto "Extending a Helping Hand" and of giving back to the community in which they live. Therefore in the past, present, and future brothers have volunteered their time to many great causes. For the past three years we've hosted a charity poker tournament. We are committed to keep this event going and growing.
While most Greek Organizations on the UNO campus are committed to national charity organizations, Theta Chi is committed to staying local and going into the community to raise money for the community.
That's why we have chosen the Siena/Francis House as our official philanthropy (SienaFrancis.org). They are a center for homeless, drug addicts, and many others who are just trying to get back on their feet. The Siena/Francis House does so much and is in need of help from the community to keep funding the many programs they do. That's why we have extended our helping hand to them.
Also for the past three years Brothers have given time to volunteer for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) gala events and activities, which last year in the auction in which brothers helped, raised over $500,000 for this great cause.
In 2006 our Chapter held "Theta Chi Rockfest", a benefit concert. The concert was held out in the open near the UNO Student Center. We learned a lot from this experience and are in negotiations with a few venues to find a proper home in which to house this event.
Several Brothers recently did volunteer hours with Habitat for Humanity last year as well.
